Fairchild was first noticed in The CBS Daytime soap drama Search for Tomorrow as Jennifer Pace between 1973 and 1977. Fairchild began her career as Jennifer Pace in CBS's daytime soap opera Search for Tomorrow. She portrayed Jenna Wade for the first time in 1978. Following that, she landed the leading role on the network's Flamingo Road. (For this season, she won a Golden Globe Award nominated Best Actress in a Television Series - Drama. She co-starred on ABC's shortlived primetime drama Paper Dolls. In the following season between 1985 and 1986 she portrayed the lawyer Jordan Roberts as part of Falcon Crest.
